For business administrators, security directors and city clerks
Raptor is the incumbent. Here is the rest of the category, by module.
Raptor Technologies states that it serves 60,000+ schools in 55 countries and over 5,300 U.S. districts.1 In most American procurements it is the product already in the building. This site is for the moment before a renewal: it maps what Raptor sells, module by module, against the independent alternatives, cites every claim to a public source, and says “not published” where a vendor has not said.
What Raptor sells
Six modules, most of them acquired. The visitor product is where an alternative is a like-for-like choice; the others are what a buyer weighs against the convenience of one vendor.
VisitorSafe
Visitor check-in with screening “against registered sex offender databases and any number of custom databases created by the school”, on “Macs, PCs, iPads, and Android tablets”, with SIS sync.2 Per-site annual fee in board records: $550 (2020) to $695 (2025–26).3
- Independent alternatives: EduQueue, CENTEGIX (Ident-A-Kid / Visitu), Ruvna, CAASS, Securly Pass Visitor Management
VolunteerSafe
Online volunteer applications, screening “against the sex offender registry”, “ongoing monthly background monitoring”, hour tracking.4 Priced per site with background checks per check.3
- Alternatives with a volunteer module: CENTEGIX (Ident-A-Kid lineage), EduQueue (volunteers share the visitor path; no background-check marketplace)
Emergency Management Suite
Drill Manager, Badge Alert (“silent, wearable alerting”), Reunification with the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s SRM, alerts that “route directly to 911”, multi-channel staff alerts.5
- Alternatives: CENTEGIX CrisisAlert, Ruvna 911 Connect. EduQueue offers an evacuation roster only — not a substitute.
SmartPass
Digital hall passes: “students request permission digitally”, a live “Hall Monitor view”, blocked meet-ups.6 No public board record with an amount found.3
- Not a visitor product. Ask for its standalone price if it is bundled into a visitor renewal.
SchoolPass
“Physical attendance, dismissal, and parent engagement” plus an iPad visitor module for independent schools on Blackbaud, Veracross, Senior Systems, FACTS and PowerSchool.7
- A second Raptor visitor product. Raptor vs SchoolPass explains what that means for a buyer.
PublicSchoolWORKS
“K-12 software for mandated training & risk management”: a staff-training LMS and compliance suite.8
- Not a visitor product; listed here because it appears on the same price sheet.
The independent alternatives for the front desk
Read the list as four companies, not six products: CENTEGIX owns both Ident-A-Kid and, through its April 2026 acquisition of Pikmykid, Visitu.9 Each name links to a nine-criterion comparison against VisitorSafe.
EduQueue
Browser-based check-in on the hardware you own; own screening database with per-state coverage published; per-building pricing with a free tier; municipal profile in production. Our product.
CENTEGIXIdent-A-Kid
Acquired February 2023 and sold as CENTEGIX Visitor Management; Windows PCs with a published scanner and printer list; identakid.com now redirects to the Visitu page.
CENTEGIX (PIKMYKID)Visitu
iPad-only kiosk app; Brother QL-820NWB; PowerSchool, Blackbaud, Clever; terms still titled for Pikmykid; the destination for Ident-A-Kid customers.
INDEPENDENTRuvna
iPad kiosk app bundled free with its Accountability suite; DYMO 450/550; K-12 only by policy; per-student or flat-rate pricing, amounts not published.
ACCESS411 · PACAASS
Access-control and attendance platform used in New York City schools since the early 2000s; visitor module with optional registry look-ups; most terms not published.
Securly Pass Visitor Management
securly.com/visitor now redirects to the Pass product, which “automatically checks the national sex offender registry”; 12-month terms with 30-day non-renewal notice and termination for convenience on 30 days; customer “shall retain all title to and ownership” of user data.10 Hardware guidance sits behind a support site we could not fetch, so no comparison page yet.
Who owns Raptor
Ownership matters to a buyer for one reason: it predicts which products get investment and which get transitioned. Each step below is cited to the investor’s or Raptor’s own release.
- JMI Equity invests in Raptor Technologies.11
- Raptor acquires LobbyGuard Solutions.12 Our sister site, lobbyguard-alternatives.com, covers that product.
- Thoma Bravo makes a strategic investment alongside “existing investor JMI Equity” as Raptor acquires CPOMS; Raptor then serves “over 35,000 K-12 US schools”.13
- Raptor acquires SchoolPass; “over 53,000 schools globally, including over 5,000 K-12 US school districts”.7
- Raptor acquires PublicSchoolWORKS; “over 60,000 schools in 55 countries, including over 5,300 K-12 US school districts”.8
- Raptor acquires SmartPass.6
- Thoma Bravo announces the sale of Raptor to Warburg Pincus; JMI Equity to “reinvest alongside Warburg Pincus”.1
- Sale completed. “Financial terms were not disclosed.”1
- Any change to product roadmaps, pricing or terms following the change of ownership. Raptor’s general terms carry a July 2026 footer.14
When Raptor is the right choice
We would be a poor guide if we pretended otherwise. Stay with, or choose, Raptor when you are buying the suite and value one support number; when your cooperative or state contract already names it and saves you an RFP; when your risk register needs a vendor of its size; or when you need Clever or ClassLink rostering that an alternative does not offer. Every comparison page on this site repeats this section with the specifics for that pairing.
Choose an alternative when the questions on the renewal page — the increase clause, the export commitment, the hardware you already own, the screening data’s actual coverage — do not get written answers, or when you run a city hall, which Raptor’s product does not set out to serve.
